Freundeskreis Wildpark Grafenberg
The oldest zoo in Düsseldorf is Freundeskreis Wildpark Düsseldorf. The zoo is located near the picturesque Grafenberger Wald, northeast of Düsseldorf city centre. The enclosure was first built in 1927 and the park has grown considerably since then. Today, the enclosure covers a staggering 40 hectares and is home to around 100 different animals. The size of the zoo allows the animals to decide for themselves when to approach people and show themselves. Among others, red deer, roe deer, mouflon and wild boar roam in spaciously designed enclosures.
Wildpark Grafenberger Wald for children
Are you going to the zoo with children? In the fallow deer enclosure, you can admire the animals up close and children might be permitted feed them with special food from the park.
In the centre of the zoo, you will find the Forest School. Here, children can explore nature and learn about the importance of the forest ecosystem. The Forest School was recently completely renovated and is used as a modern, extracurricular learning area in the zoo.
Opening hours
Zoo Wildpark Grafenberger Wald is open all year round. You can find opening hours on the wildlife park's site. The times depend on the seasons. By closing the Düsseldorf Zoo earlier in winter, the animals have sufficient rest during the fixed rest periods. In case of extremely bad weather, the zoo will temporarily close. Take the train to Wildpark Grafenberger Wald
Want to start your zoo visit well rested? Travel comfortably and quickly from Amsterdam Centraal in 2.12 hrs with ICE International to Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof. A local train or bus leaves from there and you will be at Auf der Hardt/LVR-Klinikum station in about 30 minutes. You need to walk another 15 minutes from the stop to the wildlife park.
