Gateway naar Londen - Eurostar op het station

Gateway to London

Every year, more than 4 million people travel by plane between London and Amsterdam. A significant proportion of them could also opt for Eurostar. Especially now that there is a direct train connection. From now on, travellers can travel from London to Amsterdam in just over 3.5 hours. More comfortable, more sustainable and all-in-all faster than flying.

Current offer

  • 2x a day direct connection from London to Rotterdam and Amsterdam
  • 7x a day with a layover in Brussels from Amsterdam and Rotterdam to Londen

Ambition
  • From June 2019 an extra train London - Amsterdam
  • Direct connection from the Netherlands
  • More trains per day
  • Increase the number of seats per train

Great potential

Many travellers find the train a good alternative for this short international flight. This is reflected in the high demand for this connection to and from England. The demand is further increased by the direct connection from city centre to city centre, the stylish and spacious new trains, and the competitive ticket prices (return trip from € 99).

Bottleneck: passport checks

The direct train from London to Amsterdam is now a fact, and the first successes have been achieved. But from the Netherlands, train passengers to the British capital still have to change trains in Brussels. This is because the Dutch and British authorities still have to come to an agreement on passport control and the French and Belgian authorities have to agree to this. We hope that this process will be accelerated: Eurostar and NS have already built the facilities in Amsterdam and Rotterdam and NS.

Ambition: Increase frequency

Once the passport and border control in the Netherlands is arranged, we would like to increase Eurostar’s potential. We are working closely together to introduce the third daily train on the London-Amsterdam route. The necessary preparations have already been made for the 2019 timetable.
