Discover how we can keep you informed before you begin your journey and while you travel. Unforeseen changes in the schedule
Unfortunately, it can occur that trains do not run according to the timetable because of disturbances, emergencies or unexpected weather conditions. Below are our tips on what you can do in such situations.
Are you at a Dutch station?
Ask the Train Manager, service employee or employees at the Ticket & Service office for possible alternatives, any additional travel time and the validity of your ticket. They will be happy to assist you. The announcements and LED displays will keep you informed of the current situation. At smaller stations you can consult the information pillars with blue button.
Are you at a foreign station?

At the other foreign stations you can go to the sales counters for international rail services. On the page Station maps you will find where these counters are located. You can also go to these counters if you have any questions or want to rebook your ticket.
Are you on the train?
You will be kept informed by the announcements from the Train Manager. If you have any questions that are specifically about your trip, you can ask the Train Manager when he or she comes by. Let the Train Manager know as soon as possible if you expect the disruption to affect the rest of your trip. Of course we will do our best to ensure that your trip runs as smoothly as possible.
Gates at train stations in the Netherlands
We increasingly use gates at train stations in the Netherlands. We do so to increase the safety of our customers and staff on the stations. Fare dodgers cause a great deal of nuisance and sometimes make our passengers and staff feel unsafe. The introduction of gates means that fare dodgers are no longer able to enter the station, making both the station and trains safer.

Lounges where you can wait in comfort
Lounges are also available at foreign stations for our 1st class passengers. Change your waiting time into working time by making use of the available computers and meeting rooms. Or you can come and relax by drinking a hot cup of coffee and reading one of the many national and international newspapers on offer.
